    RULES FOR GUESTS:
    DISCUSSIONS and DEBATES

    FOUNDING REASON FOR THE CHANNEL

The channel founder's reason for creating the channel was simply this...
      • The focus of the channel is fellowship, encouragement, friendly discussion, and sharing of Christ's gift of eternal life.

      • It is not a debate channel. We have a companion debate channel called #Christian-debate in which the logos bot is also to be found.

While we have this companion debate channel called #Christian-debate, debates initiated by non Christians, promoting non-Christian thoughts, will not be permitted except under the supervision of a moderator appointed by the management of #Christian; it is, after all, "our patch", and we set the rules. If you don't like them, try somewhere else.

      • It is not a comparative religion channel. We do not accept as valid any arguments or suggestions that the Christian gospel is open to question.

If you wish to talk about those things, try #apologetics or #aetheism or similar. Any attempt to discuss them in #Christian will be met by disciplinary action and no correspondence will be entertained.

The goals that the founder formed for the channel were simple:

      • to provide a place where people could come to know Christ in an atmosphere of fellowship and discussion of Christianity.

On that basis, anything that undermines that simple set of thoughts is grounds for discipline of the individual - if necessary, by the devoicing or the short-term or even long-term removal of the person or persons.

    DISCUSSIONS

      • Not all conversations are appropriate at all times. It is left up to the ops discretion on whether or not the topic is being discussed in a civil and edifying fashion or whether it has become disruptive or chaotic and should be moved on to a more appropriate place.

      • Profanity is COMPLETELY unacceptable and inappropriate on this channel.

      • Implied profanity (such as sh*t) is considered the same as profanity.

      • It is left up to the ops discretion as to what is profane.

      • Discussion of recreational use of drugs is prohibited on the channel.

      • Treat all discussions as "PG-10" since young people may be in the channel.

      • A user who causes repeated abuse of a discussion may be kicked, banned, or devoiced.

      • Certain topics are regarded as sensitive: (for example - abortion, homosexuality, denominationalism).

Channel ops may request that such topics be moved to another channel or in private where it can be discussed in a more appropriate forum.

      • Discussions that promote religion that sets itself in opposition to Christianity as outlined in our Statement of Faith found on this website is a violation of the channel's purpose.

Equally discussions that promote aetheism are violations of the Channel's purpose. That, however, does NOT mean that level-headed discussions with an aetheist or other religious believer cannot take place... the key is always whether the channel is being used to PROMOTE those different beliefs.

Channel ops may request that such topics be moved to another channel (e.g. #Atheism, #Islam, #Religion, #Wiccan etc).

      • It should be noted at all times that the decision of the Channel's Operator or Operators present at the time is final on the matter... if you object, please follow the request of the supervision.

If you believe you have been "wronged", by all means submit a log by email to the address shown at the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of the page. Arguing with an op is not recommended - indeed some regard it as downright futile - on all channels on Internet Chat!

Subsequent management investigations have repeatedly shown that the complainant has not been prepared to accept our right to run our channel the way we choose. Please understand this website, particularly this policies section.

      • Discussion should at all times be "friendly" in nature, and abuse of this may be seen as personal attacks, refusal to listen to points made by others. (being excessively one-sided), repetition of a particular line of discussion, or points made in a contentious or 'trolling' fashion.

This obviously means that those who try to ridicule and/or humiliate others in any nasty way will be made to feel unwelcome.

Christianity is largely about improving relationships with each other, not demonstrating that you are "right". Channel ops will view such behaviour in channel very seriously.

*Note: trolling can be defined as those that are fishing for an argument by asking leading questions to draw other guests into contention.
