Attacks - A Message to our Userbase.
As of midnight GMT
on 8th December 2002 DALnet has been experiencing what appears to be a
systematic and planned Distributed Denial of Service attack.
This assault on our
servers has rendered many of them inoperable and has virtually closed
DALnet to normal use. We have no information on who is behind these
attacks or what they hope to gain by depriving users of our services
and causing extreme inconvenience (and incurring significant cost) to
our hosts.
Further, the attacks
appear to be sustainable, we have no way of knowing when (or indeed
if) they will end. We can only apologise to our users for the
inconvenience the criminal actions of these individuals is causing. At
present we cannot give any estimate of when or even if we will be able
to resume normal operation, we appreciate the continued patience of
those who choose to remain.
