What is a Script? One of the reasons for that is that few of us ever read the help files - and even when we do, we seldom try out ideas that those files put into our heads!
While far more than a "macro" like you find inside a word processing program like Word Perfect a script is nevertheless able to help you do more with your chat program.
Probably the better known ones would be "Peace and Protection" and "Christian Command", although it is a year since both of those scripts ceased being developed.
We have copies of the last two versions of Christian Command and several of the archive versions and the final Version 4 beta of Peace and Protection available for downloading. We also have a copy of a tiny script called i2 which was produced by the author of Peace and Protection.
We also have a replacement Christian Command script file for those who would like to use the undernet.mrc script with the new X commands in it.
More recently, we added to our download archive a copy of the script used in irc.chatster.org for logging into their channel service.
Scripts can do other things too. Take our channel bots, for example. To type in commands for logos, for CStar or for X every time would be very slow and frustrating.
While it is true that you can customise mIRC's popups.ini file, using external scripts to perform those tasks is probably a better way to go. We also have available for download scripts to suit those bots, and also the bible bots on ^duck^'s networks, some of which use the ! command, and some of which use the ~ command.
Writing of simple scripts is actually quite easy,if you are prepared to use a simple word processor such as notepad that comes with Windoze.
In closing, it should be mentioned that there is no actual need to use any script with your chat program - because all commands can be typed. If you are worried that a script may make things too complicated for you, that is perfectly cool!
If you would like to talk to one of the senior ops about scripts, please do. It is what they are for, to offer helpful advice :)
Scripts
Scripts are an automated way to do things inside a chat program (in this instance), and which will often allow you to do far more with the program than you realise is possible.
