x-regist.txt For us to add you as an op in X, YOU have to register YOURSELF in X first with a username and a password. Go to http://cservice.undernet.org You also have to give them an isp email address when you register - not a free one. That is a good reason to already have an email address in the channel's system - that counts as an isp email address. You can get that by going to http://www.chatministries.org/members BEFORE going to register. The process usually takes 24 hours to set up from the time received to the time the guy who hosts our site does the deed. When that is all done - AND NOT BEFORE - a senior op can then add you painlessly and simply. You need to be logged into X at the time you are to be added to X's channel database - because otherwise we cannot make sure you don't tell us your username incorrectly. The correct spelling of your username is the ONLY thing that ensures we add YOU and NOT SOMEONE ELSE onto our ops list because of the way the new X works. We can check it is you - but ONLY if you are logged in on-line at the time. This is only because there is an undocumented feature in the new X commands - which allows you to be verified... we actually use the command originally provided to verify an IRCop or a CService admin. We have NOW been told you can also use that command with a channel op, although they don't tell you in the instructions for X!! VERIFY - Displays whether or not a person is an official CService Administrator or Representative, and/or an IRC Operator, and displays their username if they are logged in. /msg x verify So we can do this... [19:57] -> *x* verify kilroy [19:57] -X- kilroy!washere@p72.excitable.com is logged in as kilroy2 [19:57] -> *x* info kilroy [19:57] -X- Information about: kilroy (12345) [19:57] -X- Currently logged on via: kilroy!washere@p72.excitable.com [19:57] -X- Language: 1 [19:57] -X- LAST SEEN: 0 days, 00:43:16 ago. Now you should be able to see that this works IF the user "kilroy" is ONLINE. If the user is offline, you cannot get any information about the person... [20:31] -> *x* verify kilroy [20:31] -X- I don't see kilroy anywhere [20:32] -> *x* info kilroy [20:32] -X- Information about: kilroy (12345) [20:32] -X- Currently logged on via: Offline [20:32] -X- Language: 1 [20:32] -X- LAST SEEN: 8 days, 09:40:49 ago. Even worse, if the person kilroy has set their details to "invisible" you would get even less information than none (lol) [20:35] -> *x* info kilroy [20:35] -X- Unable to view user details (Invisible) [20:35] -> *x* verify kilroy this produces no response whatsoever So, as you can see, the new X is not particularly helpful in the maintaining of a userlist of authorised channel ops. In fact it does not produce one of any value at all... it just gives a list of usernames and access numbers, no user@host information. Now I hope that makes sense :) IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER. Once you are registered in X, you can get ops in another channel too. If you are NOT registered in X, you CANNOT get ops in any other channel if it has only X as a bot. You also cannot apply to Undernet to register a channel of your own. written: 21:57 14-Mar-2001 modified: 16:49 26-Jun-2008 eof
